It’s important to know your subject before you attempt to draw it even in the most stylized way – I learned that from a summery sketch of a hibiscus. Judging from my first sketch, my idea of what a hibiscus is, was juvenile at most. I picked up a picture of a hibiscus I shot earlier and went at it. A much better attempt, it now lives as my wallpaper.
